My post was written in response to the bill and bill summary distributed by Councilmember Grosso (via facebook, twitter and his blog), available via http://lims.dccouncil.us and covered by the Washington Post. I stand 100% behind it.

While I’m being told by different branches of government that there is different legislation pending, I have yet to see a full version, bill summary, etc. I find it alarming that legislation is being debated that has not readily available to the public or explained to the Post.

    Ward 6

Ward6_map.jpgWard 6 is the largest ward in the District and the only ward that touches all four quadrants of the city. Bounded by the Anacostia River and Washington Channel to the south and west, reaching east to RFK Stadium, and north to NoMa and Shaw, Ward 6 is home to some of the city’s most diverse, vibrant neighborhoods and some of its best schools.

    Our #Ward6 Schools

#Ward6 is home to many excellent public and public charter schools. I encourage you to visit our city's schools to find the best match for your family.

    #Ward6 Education

    DSC_0558.JPG

"We must move beyond the competition that governs our educational systems and foster a collaborative environment where our local school systems work together to ensure every student receives a great education."

Ward 6 is home to many excellent public and public charter schools and our children attend great schools in all parts of the District. It is my honor to represent our students, our families, and our schools.

I was sworn in as the Ward 6 representative to the State Board of Education on January 2, 2015. For nearly 15 years, I have worked with our Ward 6 school leaders, educators, parents and students to understand challenges we face, celebrate successes and problem-solve at the school level. My years of service mean I know the issues facing our public school systems like few others. And, as a parent of two middle school students who attend our neighborhood school, I have faced the same decisions as other parents as we choose the best education for our children.

I invite you to join my mailing list to stay up to date on the latest work of the State Board of Education, sign-up to get involved with our work in the community, or share your views on the issues impacting our city's schools. You can connect with me @JoeWeedon or on Facebook. And, please feel free to contact me at any time at joe.weedon@dc.gov if I can help support you or your school community.
