Ward 6 is the largest ward in the District and the only ward that touches all four quadrants of the city. Bounded by the Anacostia River and Washington Channel to the south and west, reaching east to RFK Stadium, and north to NoMa and Shaw, Ward 6 is home to some of the city’s most diverse, vibrant neighborhoods and some of its best schools.

"We must move beyond the competition that governs our educational systems and foster a collaborative environment where our local school systems work together to ensure every student receives a great education."
Ward 6 is home to many excellent public and public charter schools and our children attend great schools in all parts of the District. It is my honor to represent our students, our families, and our schools.
I was sworn in as the Ward 6 representative to the State Board of Education on January 2, 2015. For nearly 15 years, I have worked with our Ward 6 school leaders, educators, parents and students to understand challenges we face, celebrate successes and problem-solve at the school level. My years of service mean I know the issues facing our public school systems like few others. And, as a parent of two middle school students who attend our neighborhood school, I have faced the same decisions as other parents as we choose the best education for our children.
I invite you to join my mailing list to stay up to date on the latest work of the State Board of Education, sign-up to get involved with our work in the community, or share your views on the issues impacting our city's schools. You can connect with me @JoeWeedon or on Facebook. And, please feel free to contact me at any time at firstname.lastname@example.org if I can help support you or your school community.
